Will it fit?

Fits

  • Gerber Bath 60, 80, 82, 100, 582, 642 and 800 series compression tub and shower valves
  • Two-handle and three-handle Gerber tub and shower valves

Not compatible with

  • Single-handle Gerber valves
  • Ceramic disc cartridge valves
  • Gerber 97-022 and 97-014 Safetemp pressure balance cartridges

Is this your part?

Back one stem out and check it against the photos. Measure it end to end and count the splines on the broach where the handle mounts. Stems for this Gerber application are sold in more than one broach pattern, so match the spline count and length to your old stem before ordering.

When to replace it

The tub or shower drips after the handle is closed, water weeps past the bonnet nut, temperature creeps between the hot and cold sides, or the handle feels gritty and tight.

What is in the box

How to install it

Time: About 15 minutes per stem. Tools: Deep stem socket or stem wrench, Screwdriver, Flashlight.

  1. Close the water at the stops or the main and open the valve to bleed pressure.
  2. Remove the handle screw and handle.
  3. Back the bonnet nut out with a deep stem socket or stem wrench. Pliers round the flats.
  4. Withdraw the worn stem.
  5. Check the brass seat with a flashlight. A scored seat keeps weeping no matter how new the stem is.
  6. Thread the new stem in and refit the handle.

Questions

Does one stem fit hot and cold?

Yes. The same stem serves either side.

How many splines does the broach have?

Stems for this Gerber valve are sold in more than one broach pattern. Count the splines on your old stem and compare it to the photos before ordering.

Is the seat included?

No. The brass seat and bonnet packing nut are sold separately.

Does it fit my Gerber single-handle shower?

No. Single-handle Gerber valves use a pressure balance cartridge such as the 97-022.
