Is this your part?

Pull the right-hand handle. The cold stem is brass, roughly 4-1/2 in. long, with a splined 16-point tip and a screw-held flat washer at the bottom. Sayco three-handle valves take three different stems, so match length, broach and thread before ordering.

When to replace it

The tub spout drips constantly, water weeps around the cold handle base, the handle feels gritty or stiff, or the cold side will not shut off fully.

What is in the box

How to install it

Time: About 15 minutes. Tools: Screwdriver, Deep stem socket, Adjustable wrench.

  1. Shut off the water.
  2. Remove the handle and escutcheon.
  3. Back the old stem out counterclockwise with a deep stem socket.
  4. Look at the brass bibb seat. If it is pitted, renew it with a seat wrench.
  5. Start the new stem clockwise by hand for the first full turn so the threads do not cross.
  6. Snug it with the socket and refit the handle.

Questions

Is this the hot stem?

No. It is the cold side only. The hot side takes Sayco P002 and the middle handle takes Sayco 06550.

Is a bibb seat included?

No. One stem and one flat washer ship in the box.

Why does it still drip after the swap?

A new washer closing on a pitted seat will weep. Replace the seat while the valve is open.

Does it fit two-handle Sayco faucets?

No. It is for the 308 and T-308 three-handle valve.
