Will it fit?
Fits
- Sayco 308 three-handle tub and shower valves, center position
- Sayco T-308 three-handle tub and shower valves, center position
Not compatible with
- The hot stem (Sayco P002) or cold stem (Sayco P004)
- The shorter 4-1/16 in. Sayco K-1 diverter stem (Everbilt 86011)
- Two-handle Sayco faucets
- Pressure-balance valves and single-handle cartridges
Is this your part?
Pull the middle handle. The diverter stem is brass, about 4-11/16 in. long, with a 16-point splined tip and a sealing barrel at the bottom instead of a flat bibb washer. Measure from the broach tip to the barrel end and count the splines.
When to replace it
Water comes out of the tub spout and the showerhead at the same time, the spout keeps dripping while the shower runs, water seeps around the middle handle, or the diverter handle has gone stiff and grinding.

What is in the box
- 1 brass diverter stem with barrel seal installed
How to install it
Time: 15 to 20 minutes. Tools: Deep stem socket or stem wrench, Adjustable wrench, Flathead screwdriver.
- Shut off the water.
- Bleed the pressure through the tub spout. The barrel sprays back the moment it clears the valve body if you skip this.
- Remove the middle handle and escutcheon.
- Back the old stem out with a deep stem socket or stem wrench.
- Check the cross-tee bore the barrel rides in. A worn bore can keep diversion from working after a stem swap.
- Thread the new stem in, refit the handle and test the shower.
Questions
Is this the hot or cold stem?
No. It is the middle diverter only. The hot side takes Sayco P002 and the cold side takes Sayco P004.
Does it fit the Sayco K-1 valve?
No. The K-1 diverter is shorter, 4-1/16 in.
Is the seal included?
Yes. The barrel seal is fitted to the stem at the factory.
Diversion still fails after the new stem. Why?
Look at the brass cross-tee bore inside the valve. If it is worn, the barrel cannot seal against it.
