Will it fit?

Fits

  • Cold position (right handle) on Kohler Trend K-10606, K-10612, K-10616, K-10620 and K-10621 two-handle and three-handle tub and shower valves

Not compatible with

  • The hot position (threaded opposite, sold separately)
  • The center diverter (takes the Kohler 20868 diverter stem)
  • Later Trend K-11608 to K-11730 valves, which take GP30119
  • Kohler Rite-Temp and MasterShower valves
  • Single-handle Kohler valves

Is this your part?

Pull the cold handle on the right and back the stem out. Match a brass compression stem about 4-1/4 in. long with a 16-point C broach at the handle end and a flat washer screwed to the tip. The center diverter on the same valve is longer at 5.4 in. with a Z broach, so a Z broach means you pulled the middle handle.

When to replace it

The spout or showerhead keeps dripping with the cold handle shut, the handle has to be cranked hard to close, water weeps up around the stem, or the handle has gone stiff and gritty. A worn stem, its washer and the seat it closes against cause all of it.

What is in the box

How to install it

Time: 15 to 25 minutes. Tools: Deep-well stem socket, Seat wrench.

  1. Shut the water to the bath and open the spout to bleed the riser.
  2. Pull the cold handle and escutcheon.
  3. Back the old stem out with a deep-well stem socket.
  4. Check the seat. A pitted seat chews a fresh washer down in months, so dress or replace it.
  5. Thread the new stem in hand-tight and snug it with the socket.
  6. Run the cold side and watch the spout for drips before the trim goes back on.

Questions

Is the seat included?

No. The stem ships with its washer. Check the seat in the valve and dress or replace it if it is pitted.

Will the cold stem work on the other side?

No. The hot stem is threaded opposite. FourHome sells it separately.

What about the middle handle?

The center diverter takes a longer 5.4 in. stem with a Z broach, sold by FourHome as the replacement for Kohler 20868.
