Will it fit?

Fits

  • Hot and cold stems in Pfister and Price Pfister Marquis, Crown Imperial and Verve two- and three-handle tub and shower valves
  • Valves that close on a 21/32 x 18 bibb seat (Pfister 970-500)

Not compatible with

  • The center diverter stem (it takes the 10-piece 910-382 kit)
  • Valves that take a 7/16 x 27 seat
  • Single-handle, pressure-balance and ceramic disc Pfister valves
  • A bent stem or worn stem threads (replace the stem)

Is this your part?

Pull the handle and back the stem out. The 910-374 and 910-013 are brass compression stems that rise and fall through several turns, hold a flat rubber washer on the tip with one brass screw, and close on a removable brass seat with a 21/32 in. thread. Back the old seat out and match it to the seat in the bag.

When to replace it

The tub spout or showerhead drips with the handles closed, water weeps around the handle or up through the bonnet, or the handle has to be cranked hard to shut off. A hardened washer, a grooved seat and dried packing cause it.

What is in the box

How to install it

Time: About 15 minutes per stem. Tools: Screwdriver, Deep stem socket, Seat wrench, Plumbing grease.

  1. Shut off the water and open the tub spout to bleed the riser.
  2. Pull the handle and back the stem out with a deep stem socket, not pliers.
  3. Swap the stem washer and washer screw.
  4. Back the old seat out with a seat wrench, put sealant on the new seat and thread it in until snug, then stop. An overtightened brass seat strips the valve pocket.
  5. Fit the new bonnet packing and cap gasket.
  6. Thread the stem back in, refit the handle and test.

Questions

How many kits do I need?

One kit per stem. A two-handle valve takes two. A three-handle valve takes two plus the 10-piece diverter stem kit.

Is it the same as Danco 124162?

No. The Danco kit packs a 7/16 x 27 seat for a different valve. This kit carries the 21/32 x 18 seat.

Do I need more seats?

FourHome sells the replacement for Pfister 970-500 bibb seats in a 10 pack for jobs that need spares.
