Will it fit?

Fits

  • The center diverter stem in Pfister and Price Pfister Marquis and Verve three-handle tub and shower valves
  • Stems numbered 910-382 or 910-3820

Not compatible with

  • The hot and cold stems (they take the 5-piece 910-374 kit)
  • Pfister 910-385 and 910-022 diverter stems
  • Single-handle, pressure-balance and ceramic disc Pfister valves
  • A worn or scored stem (replace the stem)

Is this your part?

Pull the center handle and escutcheon and back the stem out with a deep stem socket. The 910-382 is a brass compression stem with a 12-point splined tip, outside threads on the body and a diverter head at the bottom instead of a plain flat washer. A stem from the left or right handle is a hot or cold stem and takes the 5-piece kit.

When to replace it

The showerhead dribbles while the tub fills, the spout keeps running with the shower on, water weeps around the center handle, or the diverter turns stiff and gritty. Worn diverter washers, a grooved seat and dried bonnet packing cause it.

What is in the box

How to install it

Time: About 20 minutes. Tools: Screwdriver, Deep stem socket, Seat wrench, Plumbing grease.

  1. Shut off the water and open the tub spout to bleed the riser.
  2. Pull the center handle and escutcheon, then back the diverter stem out with a deep stem socket, not pliers.
  3. Swap the diverter washer, stem washer, washer screw and O-ring on the stem.
  4. Back the old seat out with a seat wrench and thread the new one in until snug. Overtightening strips the valve pocket.
  5. Fit the new bonnet packing and cap gaskets.
  6. Thread the stem back in, refit the trim and test the tub and shower positions.

Questions

Does it fit the hot and cold stems too?

No. The left and right stems take the 5-piece Pfister 910-374 stem kit. The two kits do not interchange.

Is the stem included?

No. The kit reuses your stem. If the stem threads are worn or the diverter head is scored, replace the stem. FourHome sells a replacement for the Pfister 910-382 diverter stem.

Why does my shower dribble while the tub fills?

The diverter washers on the center stem are worn and no longer seal. This kit renews them along with the seat and packing.
