Will it fit?

Fits

  • Speakman tub and shower valves that take the G05-0407 stem

Not compatible with

  • The center diverter on a three-handle Speakman valve (a longer splined stem)
  • The 3-7/8 in. fine-spline Speakman stem (a separate FourHome part)
  • Single-handle pressure balance valves and cartridge faucets

Is this your part?

Back the old stem out and measure it end to end. This one is 4 in. overall with a square broach at the handle end. A splined broach means a different Speakman stem. Compare the thread direction on your old stem to the photos before ordering.

When to replace it

The spout drips with the handle closed, water weeps around the handle base, or the handle has gone stiff and gritty through the turn. The stem and its washer wear out, not the valve body.

What is in the box

How to install it

Time: About 15 minutes. Tools: Deep socket sized to the bonnet, Adjustable wrench, Flashlight.

  1. Shut the water and open the faucet to bleed pressure.
  2. Pull the handle and escutcheon.
  3. Back the old stem out with a deep socket.
  4. Check the brass seat with a flashlight. A pitted seat keeps a new stem dripping.
  5. Thread the new stem in by hand, then snug it.
  6. Refit the trim, restore water and test the shutoff.

Questions

How do I tell this stem from the 3-7/8 in. Speakman stem?

This one is 4 in. with a square broach. The 3-7/8 in. stem has a fine splined broach and a shorter body.

Does it fit the center diverter?

No. The diverter on a three-handle Speakman valve takes a longer splined stem.

Is the seat included?

No. Reuse the seat if it is smooth, or replace it if it is pitted or scored.
