Will it fit?
Fits
- Sterling two-handle compression lavatory and kitchen faucets
- Sterling two- and three-handle compression tub and shower valves
- Hot and cold sides of the same valve
Not compatible with
- The Central Brass 1/2 x 24 seat (15/32 in. tall with a wider 5/8 in. face)
- The Streamway 1/2 x 24 seat (11/32 in. tall)
- 7/16 x 24 seats and any 1/2 x 20 seat
- Single-handle pressure-balance valves and ceramic disc cartridge faucets
- Valve bodies with a seat cast into the body (not removable)
Is this your part?
Pull the handle and stem and back the old seat out with a seat wrench. Count the threads: 24 per inch is finer than the 20-thread seats most other brands use. Then match 3/8 in. tall and 9/16 in. across the face. Two other 1/2 x 24 seats look the same at a glance, so check the height.
When to replace it
The spout drips no matter how hard the handle is turned, water weeps past the handle, or a fresh stem washer stopped the drip for a week and then it came back. That pattern is a grooved seat face, not a bad washer.

What is in the box
- 10 brass bibb seats
- Seat wrench, stem washers and thread sealant are not included
How to install it
Time: 5 to 10 minutes per seat. Tools: Seat wrench, Screwdriver, Adjustable wrench, Thread sealant or PTFE tape.
- Shut off the water and open the faucet to bleed pressure.
- Pull the handle and the stem.
- Seat the wrench squarely in the socket so it does not round out, and back the old seat out counterclockwise.
- Put thread sealant or PTFE tape on the new seat.
- Thread it in until snug, then stop. An overtightened brass seat can strip the pocket, and a stripped pocket means replacing the valve.
- Reassemble, restore water and check every handle.
Questions
How do I tell a 24-thread seat from a 20-thread seat?
Hold it against a thread gauge or a known 1/2-20 bolt. At 24 threads per inch the ridges sit closer together. The thread has to match or the seat will not start.
The Central Brass seat looks the same. Will it work?
No. It has the same 1/2 x 24 thread but stands 15/32 in. tall with a wider 5/8 in. face. Measure height and face before ordering.
How many faucets does a 10 pack cover?
Ten seats rebuild both sides of five two-handle faucets, or cover ten single-side repairs.
Is a seat wrench included?
No. You need a seat wrench that fits the socket in the seat.
