Will it fit?

Fits

  • Moen single-handle push-pull kitchen faucets
  • Moen single-handle push-pull lavatory faucets
  • Moen single-handle push-pull tub and shower valves
  • Chateau, Legend and Monticello fixtures built on the 1225

Not compatible with

  • Posi-Temp pressure-balance valves (they use the 1222)
  • The 1224 two-handle cartridge
  • Moen thermostatic valves
  • Two-handle Moen faucets

Is this your part?

Pull the handle and lift the retainer clip. A 1225 push-pull cartridge starts the water when you pull the stem straight out and stops it when you push it in, with rotation only to mix hot and cold. If your handle sets temperature by rotating a lever from a fixed off position, you have a different valve.

When to replace it

The spout drips after shutoff, water weeps around the handle base, the handle binds or grinds mid-stroke, or hot and cold bleed together so the water never reaches full temperature.

What is in the box

How to install it

Time: About 20 minutes. Tools: Screwdriver or hex key, Pliers, Silicone plumber's grease.

  1. Shut off the supply and open the faucet to relieve pressure.
  2. Remove the handle.
  3. Lift the retainer clip out of the valve body with pliers.
  4. Thread the white twist cap onto the old cartridge, break it loose and draw it straight out.
  5. Slide the new cartridge in with the stem notch facing up.
  6. Seat the retainer clip before the water goes back on. Line pressure pushes an unclipped cartridge out.
  7. Refit the handle, turn the water on and check for leaks.
