Is this your part?

Pull the handle and the retainer clip. The Posi-Temp cartridge is a beige barrel about 5-1/2 in. long with a splined stem and a flat blade at the back that indexes into the valve body. One handle rotation both starts the flow and sets the temperature.

When to replace it

The tub spout or showerhead drips after shutoff, water weeps at the handle base, the handle takes force to turn, or the temperature spikes when a toilet flushes or a washer fills.

What is in the box

How to install it

Time: 20 to 30 minutes. Tools: Screwdriver, Pliers, Silicone plumber's grease.

  1. Shut off the supply and open the valve to bleed pressure.
  2. Remove the handle and escutcheon.
  3. Lift the retainer clip straight up with pliers.
  4. Thread the included tool onto the cartridge stem and work it back and forth to break the cartridge loose.
  5. Draw the old cartridge out.
  6. Seat the new cartridge with the flat of the stem indexed the way the old one sat.
  7. Push the retainer clip fully home before turning the water back on.

Questions

Does it come with a retainer clip?

No. The clip on your valve is reused. The kit includes the cartridge and a white plastic removal tool.

Does it fit my kitchen faucet?

No. Single-handle kitchen and bath faucets use the Moen 1200 or 1225.

Is there a 2 pack?

Yes. A 2 pack with two removal tools is sold on Amazon.

The old cartridge is stuck. What helps?

Thread the included tool onto the stem and rock it back and forth before pulling. That breaks the mineral bond.
