Will it fit?

Fits

  • Grohe 35 200 series pressure balance rough-in valves installed before 2008
  • Grohe 35210 rough-in
  • Tub and shower trim built on the Tempress II valve platform

Not compatible with

  • Grohe thermostatic or Grohtherm valves
  • Grohe 47157000 or 47678000
  • Post-2008 Grohe pressure balance platforms
  • Two-handle Grohe faucets and Grohe kitchen or lavatory cartridges

Is this your part?

Pull the handle and escutcheon. The Tempress II cartridge is a white polymer barrel about 3-1/4 in. long with a splined brass stem and a knurled collar, held in the valve by a retainer clip that lifts out. Count 20 splines on the stem.

When to replace it

Water weeps from the spout or showerhead after the handle is closed, temperature surges when a toilet flushes, the temperature creeps during a shower, flow fades, or the handle has gone stiff.

How to install it

Time: About 20 minutes. Tools: Screwdriver, Pliers, Silicone plumber's grease.

  1. Shut off the supply and open the valve to bleed pressure.
  2. Remove the handle screw, handle and escutcheon.
  3. Lift out the retainer clip.
  4. Draw the old cartridge straight out with pliers.
  5. Seat the new cartridge in the same rotational orientation as the old one.
  6. Reset the rotational limit stop to your old setting before testing, or the shower runs hotter or colder than the handle shows.
  7. Refit the clip and trim. Use silicone grease only, never petroleum.

Questions

Does it fit my newer Grohe valve?

It fits Grohe 35 200 series pressure balance valves installed before 2008. It does not fit post-2008 platforms.

Does it fit Grohe thermostatic valves?

No. It is a pressure balance cartridge for single-handle valves only.

The shower runs too hot after the swap. Why?

The rotational limit stop was reset in a different position. Move it back to your old setting.

Is the gasket included?

Yes. The O-rings and body gasket come fitted to the cartridge.
